Attention....read! Vashon Island Rowing has a new look to its website. We wanted something simple with a blogging component that would make it easy to post news, announcements, photos, and fun stuff. Everything that was on the old website has made its way over here. We still have some updating to do before everything is current and up-to-date, but the process is well underway. Once we have a couple more content creators trained on how to post to the site, this will be a place you can come for all things VIRC. Comments? Questions? Suggestions? Send your e-mail to

Save Those Thriftway Reciepts! |

Junior Crew began collecting Thriftway reciepts for the Thriftway 1% for Non-Profits program, last spring. Jerry Conners, parent of junior rower Meagan Conners, spearheaded the effort to get approval from Thriftway for their program. Thriftway will donate 1% back to the rowing program for each dollar spent at their store, with few exceptions. It has been decided that these funds will go towards purchasing new boats for the benefit of both junior and master rowers. How can you help? Collect your Thriftway receipts, put your last name on them, and add your phone number. Bring them to the boathouse and put in the collection jar, or give them to Joanne Kicinski and she'll get them to the proper person. If we all collect our receipts, we can collect a handsome amount of money towards new boats. Set up an envelope in your kitchen, and start collecting today! |

Great Showing for Vashon Rowing |

The Frostbite Regatta on Green Lake was not quite frosty. The day
started out cold and clear as our rowing club once again met on
Saturday morning for the 5:35am boat. We were glad to see Orion and not
rain clouds although the wind kicked up later in the morning and caused
some problems; the course had to be shortened from 1000 to 500 meters
by mid-morning. It was 8 lanes running from northeast to southwest,
directly into the wind, with the finish at the historic Aqua Theater
where the boathouse of our host, the Green Lake Rowing Club, is
located. All in all we were very glad for the relatively decent
conditions, as the weather report threatened us with drenching rain
nearly all week. The fall color around Green Lake was a pretty sight to
see as the sun came up and Vashon Rowing parents staked out a place
where we could see the whole course as well as the lake.
